We have decided to start selecting a CrossFit Gamma Member of the Month! We selected Ollie Hopkins as our first member of the month for June. (Sorry, I'm a little late entering it!) Ollie did his first trial at Gamma before we were even open. He worked out before the mats were put down and the rig was fully up! Personally, it has been nothing short of amazing watching Ollie's transformation over the past (almost) year. And, Ollie hunts some of the best meats that he loves to share with his coaches...or at least he did with Big Mike! ;) Ollie, congratulations on being selected as member of the month, but more importantly, congratulations on your transformation both inside and out! Keep up the great work!
Name: Ollie Hopkins
Hometown: Mount Pleasant Mills
What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit? I'm a yardmaster. It's basically an air traffic controller of trains.
How long have you been a member of CrossFit Gamma? Since the day it opened.
How did you get involved in CrossFit? My friend was interested in going and told me about it. I had done little physical activity since high school and thought it would be a good way to get back into shape.
Take us back to your first WOD...what was it, and how did it feel? I can't remember the first one, but the first couple of weeks were all similar. I was exhausted, my body hurt, and I was having fun.
What is your least favorite WOD/movement? Any WOD that Ben designed is usually brutal.
What is your most favorite WOD/movement? Deadlift - one simple motion requiring the effort of the entire body.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I've lost a considerable amount of weight since I've started. My muscles are noticeable and have definition. I'm also able to keep up with most of the people in class.
What is your favorite health food and 'cheat' food? My favorite healthy foods are eggs and salads. I'd have to say that craft beers are my favorite 'cheat.'
What is something that we don't know about you? I collect art, especially from local artists.
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CrossFit Gamma? Keep a log/journal and refer to it often. CrossFit is competitive, but the biggest competition should be with yourself.
